Tukka is unique. Certainly in Brisbane, and almost definitely in all of Australia, so you shouldn’t need much encouragement to try it out. If you’re still unsure, though, here’s the situation: prodigious head chef and owner Bryant Wells has established an eatery on Boundary Street in West End that treats Australian produce with more respect, skill and care than just about anywhere else. The food is exquisite, delicious and beautiful enough in itself to warrant all the praise Tukka receives, but it’s the story behind it all that makes this spot truly special.

Tukka is arguably the flagship in the new armada of modern Australian cuisine. Inspiration and ingredients come only from local farmers and other producers, a celebration of the high quality ingredients Brisbane and the surrounding area are lucky to produce. Tukka goes further than other trendy West End eateries, though, because it explores Australia’s native food history, picking out and presenting ingredients that have nourished and delighted people for tens of thousands of years. The results, however, are entirely contemporary, showing Wells’s knack for flavour balance, textural combinations and a touch of theatricality. Found on Boundary Street, Tukka may just be Brisbane’s best.
