Contrabando (OLD)

Absolutely delicious tacos. But we sat for 1..5 hours on a Friday night and only had a waitress come to us 3 times, even though we were supposed to be doing' all-you-can-eat' tacos that were supposed to be regularly ordered by us. That was disappointing.

Food came out quick, was excellent and tasty as always! Friendly staff however very slow when I came to ordering and receiving drinks! With a group of 14 and charging 10% service charge, you would think they would attend to our table with more urgency... Overall a great night staff just need to pick up their act

Ordinary. Our order came out (4 times) and it was wrong each time. Not great for a quick taco lunch. Sweet potato fries were soggy and heavy. Way too much onion and what tasted like pre-made sauces from a bottle.

Fish and prawn tacos weer cold, but other than that great food.we enjoyed $10 cocktails as well. starters are fairly big, especially quacamola and chips.

Food and drinks were both amazing. Really great place for post work dinner! Tried heaps of different meal options and everyone at the table thought it was great

Had mixed feelings about this place after going there for the first time today for a team Christmas lunch. The main meals were really good. I really enjoyed the Bulgolgi Taco. Highlighly recommended choice. However the dessert - Churros - we chose was not so much. Skip this and go elsewhere for dessert. Unfortunately due to language barrier, it was really difficult to cater for the 1 vegetarian in the group. Had I known we needed to call ahead to arrange for the vegetarian for the set menu, I would have, so that we didn't have the communication issues experienced. One of the girls in the group had a shard of glass in her sangria. When we got the replacement drink, there was no apology or anything. At least only 1 sangria was charged.

It was very busy and service was slightly rushed and not that friendly. You definitely come here for the food. The quesadilla and tacos are tasty. Good place for Mexican and drinks.

Beautiful food, fresh and tasty. I have enjoyed both lunch and dinner here. One of my favourites

It was good, service was okay and food was nice but a little to spicy for me. To dark needs more lighting and some music would be nice.

Have been before and it was excellent however this time the experience wasnt so great. waitress was pretty rude, its apparent they only employ backpackers as servers and having prior waiting experience not necessary waited 45 mins in an empty restaurant for our order. Food was good. Ill go again based on previous experiences , probably just a bad day.

Fantastic food, fantastic service and a great environment! I have been there many times and it has always been a great experience so I would definitely recommend it to people. Very chilled atmosphere too and hidden away from the chaotic city

3 out of 6 as the food wasn't inedible. Although I was expecting a basement setting, the atmosphere was cheap, chairs uncomfortable, staff inattentive and the famous cocktails too light on the rum/tequila. I know it is hard to pull off Mexican in Australia so I'm forgiving of the food.

Great food and beautiful atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and advised us on arrival of the days specials with food and drinks. Food arrived in good timing.

Great place for casual after work catch up! Recommend booking as it is hard to walk off the street and get a table. This has become my regular go-to place.

Service was not great, we waited a long time for food because they brought us the wrong order and forgot about one of our orders. We had to check twice. Overall, not a pleasant experience.

Food was great as always. Packed with flavour and speedy.

Had dinner with a group of 6 on a Thursday night and all of the dishes we ordered were great. Only let down were the desserts (churros and flan) which were pretty awful. Have a sangria instead - it's delicious. As they weren't fully booked we were able to stay longer than 2 hours for a few more drinks. Check your bill as we were charged $18 for drinks that weren't ours but they did adjust that.

This place is Pretty good, but there's better tacos around for the price. But the drinks were good and the atmosphere is nice as well.

yeah - it was good. We come here a bit and have had better experiences... the waitresses were not as friendly as usual... One of them asked me if I wanted another beer - I said no - and she brought me one anyway... I was happy I spose, but the restaurant was not crowded, so she heard me OK... Also the potato dish that was ordered was described as 1/2 baked chap potatoes - and what was delivered was like potato crisps.... one last thing... the fist course - avocado dips were delivered on the table with a pile of brittle small chips/crackers - very hard to eat the avocado... and there were not enough - so lots of dips etc left over... AND we needs another plate to eat them... I hope I am not being too critical, but I though you might like to know these things...

Huge fan of this spot and I can't wait to try the new location when it opens! Excellent food, attentive wait staff, and a cool vibe- I've only had great meals here.

Had a great meal of Contrabando staples - corn, guacamole, taco and the divine popcorn prawns all washed down with refreshing Margaritas. We will be back for more!

I was questioning why a client would want to go to a shared food place for a catch up, the food was great and a good atmosphere.

Great atmosphere and awesome food. Loved the fish tacos and the chipotle quesadilla. Highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys authentic and tasty Mexican food.

Great lunch! We had the express 4 course lunch which was very delicious and was nice and fast for a work lunch! Recommend the place.

The food was absolutely delicious and there was a great offering of Gluten Free options which is hard to find in Sydney. The atmosphere was great and the service was lovely.

Best fish tacos in Sydney. Service is good. Come on a Tuesday for all you can eat tacos and have some cheap margaritas you're there.

They weren't going to give us the 25% Liven voucher because their system wasn't working. However, we complained and they ended up fixing their system and giving us the 25% off. Food was good - decent sizes. Service wasn't great, but I would go back again.

Food was excellent but the atmosphere is not overly pleasant. it was very hard to hear my dinner guest, and we were sandwiched between two groups. During dinner we gave up trying to have a conversation. But the service and fast and excellent.

Love the food, love the atmosphere, second time visiting and still fantastic, would highly recommend for romantic lunches/dinners or corporate team lunches/dinners and their daily specials are great too!

Great delicious food from entrees through to shared plates and individual tacos, in a bit of a hidden city location with good atmosphere, fair prices. Only minor issue was the churros were a little doughy/undercooked

Food was pretty good. Waitress was a little rude when we told them that they had gotten our order wrong. Other than that, very good lunch.

Food is always good, but service is poor. I'm yet to have a lunch here without them getting our order wrong. Lucky the good food makes up for it.

Great atmosphere, delicious tacos and excellent staff. 6/6 would recommend. Will 100% come back loved the nigh everyone enjoyed themselves not much more to say. Noise scale does not make sense if the place was mute it would be no fun. This place is loud and full of life

very good food but very similar to many of the other Southern Californian restaurants that have opened up recently, not to expensive, lacks any real bar area to wait at, need to improve the entrance so its not smack bang straight into tables

The food was delish! Always tasty and very quick turnaround with the service. My only observation was the very poor lighting on the east side of the building - we could not read our menus so we asked for a candle on the table.

Great food as usual. Food came out too fast so our table started piling up with tacos going cold. Bottles of wine run out due to poor stock control, they should ensure they order earlier to keep wine up to what is listed on their wine list. Will go back though as the food and service I are great.

The restaurant was really great, loved the food and even though it was busy and we were a large table we got our food reasonably quickly.

Had a great time. Atmosphere was lively but not too loud. Food was delicious and really good value. Tasty and generous portions. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for Latin American street food.

Food not as good as usual and was on the cold side. As was the service of the wait staff who took our money at the end. Very poor service indeed. Will be a while before I return

Tasty Mexican based food with a funky vibe located at the northern end of Sydney's CBD. It's often difficult to get a table so make sure you grab a reservation.

Enjoyed their Friday taco special: 4 tacos for $20. Very filling and came out quickly. Probably could have even split the four between 2 people if not that hungry (3 would have been ideal).

I loved it here! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great and the price very affordable. Perfect for a fun and casual dinner with friends

Food was wonderful as was service and the price was cheap! I would recommend this to anyone having a work lunch. Make sure you book first as it was jam packed on a Friday lunch.

Nice food but the service really let this place down. Miserable and unhelpful. Very unfortunate! The food was good though, and they have some very reasonable deals.
