Found on Boundary Street in Brisbane’s West End, this restaurant and bar offers a simple menu of boldly flavoured Japanese delights, which go perfectly alongside sake or a pint of beer. Premium sake meets incredible Japanese cuisine at Brisbane’s Izakaya Goku. Found in West End, this local Japanese restaurant and bar keeps tradition alive by serving izakaya-style dishes, ranging from grilled tender ox tongue to tempura prawn roll with tempura onion, karaage squid legs or chicken katsu. The environment here is also stunning, and features beautiful Japanese decor throughout. Popular mains at Brisbane’s Izakaya Goku in West End include the BBQ cha-shu pork with Goku’s original onion dressing, the soul-satisfying Wagyu sukiyaki hot pot, the grilled scallop skewers, or the chicken okonomiyaki pancake with yum yum sauce and mayo. Noodle soups like the mini tempura udon and the yakisoba are also popular options, and are comforting and delicious. There’s plenty more to discover – booking ahead will ensure the best table
Great food and great service and very well priced. Starters, mains and drinks for 4 only $150! The spicy ramen was delicious. Nice dining room with a traditional Japanese feel.
If you are looking for a truly authentic Japanese restaurant in Brisbane... this is it!! The food is absolutely delicious & the hospitality is great!!
Great service. Staff was attentive without being overbearing. Great menu selection and the dishes were quick to come out. Best of all there were no bill stuff ups, which has happened in almost every other restaurant in Brisbane when I've organised a large group.
The food was outstanding, everything we ordered was fresh and flavourful. We really enjoyed the diversity of the drinks menu as well. Recommend the jelly sake.
We had a great time: attentive service, tasty food and a pleasant environment (quiet enough to carry a conversation). My favorites were crispy karaage chicken and seaweed salad. Our companion had seafood okonomiyaki pancake and loved it. The bento box for dinner was a bit pricey but quite large (I was forewarned that 2 people could share it) and good quality. It felt like being back in Tokyo... We will come back, probably for lunch.
Good place to eat, however quite small so if you have a big group, it is best to book ahead. I don't think the Bento is worth the price but pork ramen is nice. Service was quite slow. There were 6 of us and our food came out one by one with around 10-15 mins interval so this might be something they need to work on.
The menu options were excellent and food was served quickly. The only reason I didn't give a 6 rating was that the ramen wasn't as good as I've had at most other establishments. Would still definitely eat there again though just minus the ramen.
Staff were friendly and obliging. Food was fresh and nicely presented. Yummy gyoza especially. Loo is a long way from the restaurant through not particularly attractive alleyways, but this is a minor compliant.
Delicious and authentic food, reasonably priced for the quality. There's a wide range of sake available, plus Japanese beers and a few wines. Only downside is it is a bit noisy.
Great Japanese. They have specials on weekdays, on Tuesday when we visited you could buy edemame for $1 with any drink. The food was all high quality and came out quickly.
