Red Emperor - Southbank

Red Emperor is one of our long time favourites. Food and wine were excellent- as usual. Service was prompt and professional. The only down note was when I declined the invitation to tip - the senior waiter taking payment turned decidedly sour and went from smiling to grumpy grunting - I'd paid my bill and didn't expect to be "punished" for not tipping. Not the first time I've experienced this at Red Emporer unfortunately.

Staff so friendly and food exceptional. This is our six monthly custom to lunch at the Red Emperor celebrating significant birthdays throughout our 70s and now our 80s. We look forward to our next lunch in the Spring and then in February 2027 to celebrate my sister’s 85th birthday! Thank you the Red Emperor team!!

The food was amazing and the service was spectacular. I am a coeliac and there were so many delicious gluten free options. The staff were very attentive to my dietary needs and I appreciated their care very much. I will be making another booking for Yum Cha very soon.

Very upset, offered $75 all you can eat we said no and then charged us more then $75 per person. There response when asked was it’s a gamble ??? They don’t disclose the price of the plates so how are you suppose to know what you’re spending if they purposely withhold the prices. Very deceptive.

This is the restaurant we visited a few times before and the experience is constantly good. The food is delicious and the service very high quality. In addition the restaurant settings are beautifully decorated. Good place to take your visitors to showcase modern oriental food!

Booked online, no where on line to request a table on the balcony as per our daughter’s choice for her birthday. Asked when we arrived as we had tried to call, alas no answer. Arrived early to ask this question, when I did my request was totally ignored and were given a table in the centre of the restaurant. Stated softly and calmly to the wait staff that we were there for our daughter’s Birthday with her request for the balcony whilst I was looking at a vacant table on the balcony which seated three. He mumbled quite abruptly, and aggressively “you never ring me to ask, come through here” and literally stomped off ahead to the vacant table and said, “sit here”. The restaurant was extremely busy and I didn’t want to spoil my daughter’s birthday by questioning this childish, inappropriate behaviour. Time to order our meals, he dismissed one of the entree’s requested verbally. The meat dish came out excessively peppery almost inedible. The rice dish was served with extra prawns after requested not many please. Have eaten the same dishes previously, never had the quantity of pepper on the steak previously. Have felt ill since eating this food. Will never return. Husband was going to book his Corporate Christmas lunch for his employees at this restaurant after we finished dining. This business has lost a large corporate bill, due to this employee’s tantrum!

Took overseas travellers with us from UK. They were stunned by the food and said they had never had anything like it before. We enjoyed the new, to us, decor and enjoyed our meal on the balcony overlooking the Yarra.

Dined with my Partner and she requires Gluten Free options. There was such a great variety for us to eat. Tasty dishes and the staff ensured we were looked after. Great service and location. Highly recommended!
