Amazing food, fantastic service and brilliant atmosphere! We couldn't recommended this place more. We ordered the 9 course with matching wines and everything was superb. Compliments to the chef and our lovely wait staff. We had a lovely evening and we'll definitely be back!

The decor and ambiance are lovely, but the air conditioning was up too high for winter. We ordered the 5 course menu. The first course was a little disappointing, but the remaining dishes more than made up for it!

Ssshhhhh...don't tell anyone about this place. Dinner on Saturday at Deer Duck was a real find. Reservations full elsewhere in the city but this place 5 mins out of town will now become a regular haunt for us. No a la carte menu on a Saturday but the set dinner menu (choice of 5, 7 or 9 courses with or without wine) was excellent. Food was well though out, kitchen was flexible in swapping a blue tart topped with Waldorf salad (we'd prefer not to eat blue cheese or celery) to a pickled mushroom and truffle ensemble which was both interesting to look at and wonderful to eat. There's a limited selection of wine across a wide price range but mid range wine was superb with our menu. Remembering this is a Bistro, service is not restaurant quality. They did put a lot of effort into presenting every plate but their (in)experience and attentiveness (to empty wine glasses, napkins, missing cutlery) was almost worth mentioning to management but it won't stop us returning. In fact, we're both looking forward to it already!

Great staff and gorgeous quirky restaurant Good bar and cocktails menu interesting with good ideas but food over salted and execution could be improved eg shadow of blue tart had nice pastry but no blue cheese flavour which could have made the dish / oriechette and clam consume over seasoned Will go back however

The dessert was very disappointing. Just a bit of cream which was supposed to resemble poppy orange cake? And very tiny. The pasta and amuse were good! Great ambience, overall enjoyed it

Excellent place. The Chef of the restaurant has pleasantly surprised us today with quite a few things. Deconstructed desert was one of them... The service was top notch - guys did a fantastic job. Place is comfy and about the right size for a romantic dinner. Thanks!

Disappointing at first: no-one acknowledged us for 5 minutes on arrival even though they were aware of our presence; cocktails took 20 minutes to arrive. However, service improved once shown to our seats, although a we choosing the a la carte option was frowned upon and we were advised it would take much longer for meals chosen from a la carte to be delivered. Seems incongruous to make a la carte available but frown on its use and de-prioritise its delivery. Professional but slightly awkward wait staff. Well presented food in short course degustation. Nothing special in first few courses. Flavours improved from venison carpaccio onward. Overall: pleasant and above average but won't be rushing back.

Amazing and definitely be back. Best meal I’ve had in Brisbane. Do yourself a favour and do the 9 course degustation. I’d love to do it with the matching wine next time.

We had the long course digustation with 4 friends. Up there with the best we have had in Australia. Attention to detail, matching of wines was perfect. Courses just got better and better and gave you something special each time. Only feedback was that the last course, amazing Lamb could have been a little bigger just to feel like you were just full. And maybe a cheese course to finish. All in all worth every cent. Great service. Well managed pacing of courses and perfect atmosphere. Music and feel.

Beautifully presented food which can be quite outstanding. If your hungry, go the 7 courses, after a lot of exercise the 5 course menu was not quite enough.

Our second visit was made with trepidation as many restaurants don’t live up to previous experience. We should not have worried. Deer Duck served up another wonderful, exciting and flavourful menu. The wine pairings were superb.

Food was great, service was good though the waiter we had seemed rather new and quite nervous. The venue was nice though the table was fairly unstable and the place was quite cold. All in all, we spent 3.5 hours there for the 9 course Degustation menu and enjoyed it very much.

Very expensive food that was miniscule. Hardly anything on the plate. Had to go elsewhere to eat after paying a fortune. AND the food wasn't that great. I had pasta. The sauce was cold and the 5 noodles they gave me were like leather. We ordered coffee with desert thinking they would come together. But no. The coffee came, and after we drank it, the tiny desert arrived. Unimpressed.

I notified them I was a celiac 3 days before eating here. I was told the chefs could accommodate for this. I was so excited about eating here! What actually happened - I was fed gluten in one of the dishes and left half way through our meal as I didn’t feel safe eating here. I received one dish which I realised had couscous in it before I ate it, sent it back then received another dish which I started and then realised there was still couscous in it. I realise it’s difficult to cater for intolerances however please do not advertise this on your website and menu if you are unable to cater for this. Very upsetting experience

Even before the food arrives, visiting this restaurant is a pleasure, due to its quirky and appealing furnishings and fittings! We found the wait staff very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Most importantly, the food was very good, combining interesting ingredients and flavours, and presented with style and flair. We opted for the 5 course degustation menu, mostly because we thought 7 courses might be too much food - but the portions are a sensible size, so next time I think we'll try the 7 course version. Total cost for two people, including two glasses of wine each, was $228.

Great service. Dishes were all well designed to complement the palate from the previous dish. Just wish the lighting was a bit higher and the toilet was not 1 door from dining.

Wow this place is amazing. The food here is to die for. From what we could tell this place only does 5, 7 and 9 course set menus. We had the 7 course. Was a little pricey but the food was worth every cent and I definatly left satisfied. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and explained each course that came out. Even though my wife was pregnant they were able to modify their menu on the spot to accomodate. Thanks we will definitely be back in the future.

The food was lovely. My partner and I enjoyed the food. The arrival process is very weird where you hang around for 10 minutes waiting to be seated (all while the restaurant is not busy). It is certainly a unique experience and well worth a visit. We are just not sure as yet if it would warrants a return visit. We would be very interested what others think.

My husband and I attempted to go to the restaurant on a Thursday night and it was probably the worst experience as a customer I have ever had. I should preface this by saying that we regretfully didn’t get to try any of the food so the poor review is based on the service and our experience in the restaurant While a number of degustations were available we decided to go on a night where the a la carte menu was available as I don’t like duck and can’t eat shellfish which featured on all the degustations. When we arrived our waiter gave us the menu for the degustation. When I asked him about the a la carte menu, he informed us that the chef had only prepared 6 servings of the a la carte menu and that they had already sold them all. After explaining that we had only come there for the a la carte he said he would talk to the kitchen and see what he could do. Shortly he came back and left the a la cart menus on the table and walked away before I could ask if there was anything on the menu that wasn’t available. He then later came back to take our orders. This waiter was gave us the feeling he thought we were just being difficult customers which made us both feel very uncomfortable. A few uncomfortable minutes later a different waiter came back to inform us that we actually couldn’t have the a la carte menu because the chef didn’t have enough stuff prepared as they were so busy the night before and wanted to make sure that we weren’t interested in a degustation instead. She did offer to see if she could organise some substitutions for the courses I couldn’t eat but at this point we felt uncomfortable and weren’t really enjoying ourselves so we decided to leave. The pros were that they filled our water glass and offered a drink on the house for our troubles however we politely declined as we really just wanted dinner. We left the restaurant disappointed and upset about the ordeal. I suggest that the restaurant removes the al la carte menu from the website if it’s not going to be available to save others disappointment.
