The food was amazing and the service was amazing. The restaurant had a very nice warm, homey feel to it. Would definitely go back again.
Always fantastic food and lovely service. You get great value for the reasonable price you pay, and a delicious range of German beer and food. Even though it is far from home, it has became a favourite of ours, and well worth the trip.
Restaurant was pleasant and relaxed. Our waiter was excellent and the food really tasty and generous portions. Food and drink selection would not disappoint anyone. Our party of six were all impressed. Good value!
Good food, very hearty, good service, did not have 2 of the menu items which we requested, however was good in every other way!! Recommended
This was probably my 5th visit. Food is alway great. The 2 of us shared 2 main courses - pork knuckle and lamb shoulder. The knuckle dish was a substantial portion.
I recommend this restaurant for large gatherings- I had a reservation for 10 people and stayed there for 2-3 hours without feeling the need to leave. I booked thru' Quandoo and there was no problem whatsoever getting a reservation. The staff were helpful and always attentive to our orders. I ordered the pork knuckle which was $32. It tasted amazing and it was unbelievably huge. i had to divide up my dish with another person. Great bargain i reckon. The beer tastes incredible and i dont consider myself a beer drinker but when it comes to German beer i always make an exception.
Staff great..children & adults enjoyed generous delicious meals. Pork knuckle perfect, meat platter as good and being non drinkers water bottles replaced without asking. Excellent.
Excellent warm service, nice ambience, great food especially the vegetable sides. We had the baked salmon and slow cooked pork belly :) will come back to try the German pasta. We tried the entrees in our first visit which was great
Quaint setting and prompt staff. Delicious food and great beer selection. Portions are a decent size so go in hungry or with a group. I am not usually a beer drinker - but the wheat beer goes down well! Will visit again!
Food was good. Choice of beers seems to have gone down a bit. Still worthwhile to visit for a good German meal with no fuss.
Although we were delayed by latecomers the staff were most helpful and friendly. Eight of us sat down and enjoyed a very good meal. We will be returning!
Our second time at Essen, and we'll make a point to come again. Big meals, great service, and the food tastes authentic. Could not stop eating!
Very slow service, it wasn't even busy, still had to wait over 40 minutes for our food. Food was ok, nothing to rave about or recommend.
Friendly staff and good European food. As soon as you entered the restaurant , you feeled like you were back in Germany. The pork belly and cracklings were delish and curry wurst was a must to try!!
Excellent German restaurant. Had the Sausage Plate and Braised Pork neck. The sausages was excellent, full of flavour. The Pork neck was tender and well seasoned.
Food is always lovely here and the booze is amazing. You have to try the platter for 2 if unsure but my girlfriend and I always love the schnitzel and pork belly.
Really nice food and beer. Staff were very professional and always looking to make the experience better. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone who asked
This is the best German restaurant in Sydney. For every special occasion my husband and I go here. We absolutely love the schnitzel and the service!
Food was great; service excellent. They were accomodating to our needs and even had something for our daughter to do before dinner. Had a great time.
A fantastic display of German food in the middle of the City. Always delicious. Stand outs are the fried cheese and the schnitzels. Can't wait to go again.
Food was good and the service from the waiter Tom was also friendly. Worth a return visit. I feel the price for a glass of wine for just 125 ml wine was a bit steep though. Stick to beer! 😊
I reserved a table for 5. The staff were attentive and service was great. We ordered the meat platter for 2 and I found the pork knuckle a tad dry. My friends enjoyed their meals nonetheless
Overall very nice! Only let down was there were a few things we wanted off the menu but was unavailable. Service was nice and friendly.
Service is lacking.....more staff are required. Had to wait 1 hour for the meals to arrive and also some drinks were forgotten...food is ok, especially the Pork Belly.
I'm a chef and I cook German food all the time. Infact I'm from a German background. For me if you go to a restaurant that specialises in a cuisine they need to get it right. It's obvious that the chefs have no passion for what they are cooking. I had pork knuckle. It was undercooked and tough. We had pork and veal schnitzel which was obviously prepared ahead of time. It was not seasoned at all. None of the food was seasoned. The red cabbage was ok but a bit dry. They ended up giving us free dessert to make up for things We will not be back. Life is to short
really enjoyed the meal. The service was very good. This restaurant is exactly what you would find in Germany, from the decore to the menu and beer. I enjoyed it for nostalgic reasons also.
Found the service very slow. Took 1.5 hours to get our mains. Had to chase waitresses for drinks as only offered once. Food was nice
Great service, although food is a little too salty. Excellent for groups for catch up and socialising. The selection of beer is great, good variety.
Good hearty food as you'd expect with a number of pork dishes as their go to dishes. A large range of German beers to choose from together with some interesting spirits to finish with.
The service was good. The food was below average having been prepared earlier then reheated. I will not be returning nor recommending this restaurant to any of my friends
The most popular dishes not available [eg pork knuckles, bourbon ribs, bretzel, creme broulee], leaving the choice remaining very limited. Pork crackling entree was appalling [dry, hard, unsalted, tasteless] and croquettes average at best. Braised pork neck just passed, with just a pile of average sauerkraut and half a plate of mashed potato. Service average and slow. Even with the Groupon discount the meal was a disappointment. Would NOT recommend.
Great Food and also Great Beer! This restaurant has a lovely variety of German dishes and all are prepared to perfection. You won't be disappointed.
The food was great, a good selection of dishes and drinks in the menu.Food came well presented and delicious. staff friendly and attentive. great atmosphere, beautiful and clean place.
I feel that the place was a bit understaffed for a Saturday night. Otherwise the food and general service was good. Would eat here again.
Everything's are good except the price are bit too much. The meat platter for two cost almost $80, that is just ridiculous, not worth the money but service is good and food is not bad.
The food was both tasty and plentiful. Unfortunately the service was extremely slow and the noise level in the restaurant was high making conversation difficult.
The service was horible. We had to waite for the food an hour and a half. Food was not tasty at all. We did not enjoy our dining. Will not go back
The staff were friendly and very helpful. Everything we ordered, except the main course, came out quickly. I had to ask about the main because I noticed the table next to us received the same dish before us even though they ordered after us. Besides that tiny hiccup, everything was great.
Portions are very generous and tasted good. Friendly service. Drinks menu is extensive enough to satisfy the taste buds, even if you are not a beer drinker.
It took just over 1.5 hours to get our meal! I wouldn't go back!! The waiter also forgot to put our drink order in so had to keep asking about that also.
We were so looking forward to our evening. We had two grandma's birthdays to celebrate. It started nice and we got our beers and entrees nice and quick, then we stalled. Our service went to everyone else but us!! After about an hour (yes ONE hour ) our waiter apologised for the delay as the restaurant had a "function" upstairs. The table next to us came after us and had their mains delivered before us. I guess we just didn't look hungry! Our food was nice, although the pasta (spaetzle) was too oily and the capsicum in the mushroom pasta was over powering, the salmon was on the small size and also there was not enough sauerkraut in the platter for two. All in all it was ok . The best bit was definitely BEER.
Excellent range of Boutique Beers as well as imported Beers from other countries. The best Pork Knuckle crackling and the meat was flavoursome. That being said, the Meat is tastier at another German Restaurant. It was good to see the menu slightly more open than other German competitors which makes you feel inclined to order a different dish awarding yourself with a beautiful change. Portions are very big, yet beautiful to the Diner and I enjoyed the experience as it was German with the most gentle professional twist. I would definitely go back and it was beautiful to see real Vanilla Bean in the Brûlée.
Love this place. Food is good and service is always excellent. The tap beers are good, and they have a big selection of schnapps - although many were sold out on the night which is unusual.
Good all round. The service is good and all of us enjoing our food. The restaurant location is easy to find. Will come back again for sure.
We waited over an hour and a half for dinner. The food was good, and there was a lot of it, but we were not impressed at all...
Good food and nice ambiance. It was busy during the Sunday evening but the staffs managed to cope well. Overall a very satisfactory dinner for the price paid.
Food and service was great. Have eaten there many times and always a great feed. This time i had the lamb shoulder which was delicious, unfortunately half of it was fat and the menu stated it came with carrots but I received green beans (which I hate). My Partner had the pork belly which was perfect.
It was very good.. Nice food, Good service. it was very noisy -- which wasn't the establishment's fault. i'd certainly like to go back there.
Snitzel was lovely. Fried mushrooms had an awesome sauce. Fried camembert was scrumptious. Crackle on pork knuckle was good but the meat was quite hard and didn't fall off the bone. Waiters were pleasant.
Was charged unexpectedly with 10% surcharge which not mentioned at booking nor in the menu, it's not in original bill, was added when I paid
