The kitchen was in chaos when we were there. Walked in at 6.15pm, had our entree at 6.30, our main at 7.30 and dessert at 8.30.. we went out at 8.45, wasted 2 hours waiting for our food.. plus there's surcharge on Sunday.. we wont be going back.

Good all round. The service is good and all of us enjoing our food. The restaurant location is easy to find. Will come back again for sure.

Good food and nice ambiance. It was busy during the Sunday evening but the staffs managed to cope well. Overall a very satisfactory dinner for the price paid.

Food and service was great. Have eaten there many times and always a great feed. This time i had the lamb shoulder which was delicious, unfortunately half of it was fat and the menu stated it came with carrots but I received green beans (which I hate). My Partner had the pork belly which was perfect.

Excellent range of Boutique Beers as well as imported Beers from other countries. The best Pork Knuckle crackling and the meat was flavoursome. That being said, the Meat is tastier at another German Restaurant. It was good to see the menu slightly more open than other German competitors which makes you feel inclined to order a different dish awarding yourself with a beautiful change. Portions are very big, yet beautiful to the Diner and I enjoyed the experience as it was German with the most gentle professional twist. I would definitely go back and it was beautiful to see real Vanilla Bean in the Brûlée.

We waited over an hour and a half for dinner. The food was good, and there was a lot of it, but we were not impressed at all...

Great restaurant with delicious and super crunchy knuckle. It is a great place to chill out and have some beers , though you do have to wait a bit for the food. But it totally worth the wait.

Nice atmosphere. Overall we have a nice meal (meal platter for 2), though pork belly a bit dry. Love the lamb shoulder,beef goulash and pork crackle. Friendly staff and good hospitality.

Nice relaxed atmosphere,friendly staff,nice food though not amazing--the sausage was good though,the cabbage salad and sauerkraut and rosti too,as was the fish one of us had but the schnitzel another had could have done with being both more tender and smaller! Reasonable prices.

Delicious food , schnitzels was crisp , pork belly was juicy and tendency . Appropriate time to serve. service was excellent. A little bit disappoint was that no and sausage plates on Sunday. That gives me an excuse to come back to try again. Thanks!

We thought we'd give this place a try since we visited Vienna last year and loved the food - especially the schnitzel and the Apfelstrudel. Whatever quality Essen may have had sadly spears to be gone now - the pork schnitzel was tough and reminded me nothing of what I sampled in Vienna. I'm glad the couple next to us ordered what was called apple strudel because it saved us from making another bad choice - it appeared to be very dry and probably was given they had to use a knife to cut pieces off to eat. I have had the real deal on both fronts so my bar is set very high and sadly Essen came up well short.

Very good food. The items we selected are all great from starters to mains and desert. Waiting staff is good. We will definitely go back for more. Servings very generous too.

Pork knuckle, Sausage plate, Bourbon Ribs sold out which was disappointing. Great Crumbed Camembert dish and Pulled pork spatzle. Service was good for a busy dinner session.

Food was great & portions were good. A slight negative was the wait time. The entree came out reasonably quick but then wait between entreè & main meal was a tad long. In saying that, I would come back.

Excellent food. But it took sooo long for the mains to be served. Maybe it's because we requested the entree to be served first, which meant that they started cooking the mains after we finished the entree. I would suggest to request everything to be served at the same time. If it didn't take this long I would have rated 6.

Pork knuckle not as tender as Rhinedorf so wont come back. Luck we did not payfull price. Lamb shoulder was average. Waiters were very nice. Make the pork knuckle fall apart and you will see a fullvhouse again Sorry guys

Food was good and consistent with previous meals but food took a long time to come out. Meant we were there for longer than expected but still a favourite German restaurant in Sydney

Had a great time at Essen, service was good, food was great with generous portions, only complaint would be the aircon was not great, but otherwise we enjoyed our time there.

The restaurant was pleasant, great service, will definitely coming back next time as the food was fresh and yummy. I would highly recommend ESSAN to all my friends.

The Atmosphere was great. Unfortunately they only serve the German Currywurst with a Cransky sausage instead of a "Bratwurst". That was very disappointing. The tin on the table where they had put the cutlery in was dirty.

Wonderful and authentic food, great atmosphere, although would probably have been a little noisy had we stayed longer (we had a very early booking). We are regulars here, and there are regular adaptations to the menu, while our favourites stay on.

We had the Meat Platter for 2, and it was amazing. Every piece of meat was soft and falling apart, and the sides were delicious. Gravy was perfect too. We will absolutely be back.

Great Food, got in on the Tuesday night. Waitresses were nice, good food. I would recommend the people to try on their drink especially the beer. Well spent and it is good for a group to dine.

The Schweinshaxen was excellent. Helpful friendly staff, and great value for money, Would certainly return. Great choice of European beers to accompany the classic German food.

We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food thoroughly. The staff were very polite and helpful. Great place to go. Parking is a bit hard, but not as hard as one anticipated.

Use this restaurant for pre Christmas dinner with my boyfriend. Menu variety is not enough but services was good enough! I would like to back here again.

Great relaxed atmosphere, some nice Bavarian beers on tap and generous portions of hearty fare add up to make the Essen a great option for a dinner near central Sydney. The added bonus of the available deal made the visit great value for money.

Good, hearty food and reasonably good service. A really lovely dinner. Pork knuckle and schnitzels were both quite good. Our kids enjoyed themselves as well.

The food was okay. There was plenty of food to eat though. The waitress and waiter provided great service. There was only two of them, but they managed to serve everyone very well.

Service was prompt and very efficient. Large serving of good food which all our group enjoyed. All over indulged in dessert. The value was very good. A Very enjoyable lunch had by all.

Delicious traditional food and atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff. A wonderful dining experience. I was there with family and friends for a small birthday celebration. Some of us had eaten there before, others had not, but we would all go back again for another dinner!

The pork & chicken schnitzel, rosti and sauerkraut were excellent with very good service and reasonable prices. Good variety of beers, wines and ciders to cater for all tastes.

Although the food was good but we have to wait for nearly 40minutes just for three schnitzels main meals only. We'll give it another go.

Good location. Great food & service. Wide selection of beers. Very large servings of food. The pretzels are very tasty. I highly recommend the restaurant.
